Frequently asked questions

What is a QR code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that phones can read with the built-in camera. It can hold a web address, plain text, WiFi login details, a contact card and more. Scanning takes a second and needs no special app.

Are the QR codes free and do they expire?

Yes. Codes made with the generator above are static: the information is stored directly in the pattern, so they work forever and never stop working, even if this website goes offline. Trackable codes from a free account depend on our redirect service.

What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?

A static code permanently contains its content. A dynamic (trackable) code points to a short link that we redirect, which lets you change the destination after printing and see how many people scanned it, from which country and on what device.

Can I put my logo in the middle?

Yes. Upload an image under Logo. QR codes contain built-in error correction, so up to about 30% of the pattern can be covered and still scan. We automatically switch to the highest error-correction level when a logo is added. Keep the logo small and avoid covering the three large corner squares.

Which colors work best?

Scanners need strong contrast. Use a dark pattern on a light background, never light on dark, and avoid low-contrast pairs like yellow on white. Gradients are fine as long as the darkest part stays dark.

Which file format should I download?

Choose SVG for print: it is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, from business cards to billboards. PNG is best for websites, documents and social media. JPG and WebP produce smaller files for email or web.

How big should a printed QR code be?

A good rule is at least 2 × 2 cm (0.8 × 0.8 in) for close-range scanning, and roughly one tenth of the scanning distance for posters. Leave a quiet margin around the code, and always test with several phones before printing.

Is my data private?

The free generator runs entirely in your browser — the text, links and logos you enter are never uploaded. See our Privacy Policy for details on accounts, analytics and cookies.
